WordPress wins at 2009 Open Source CMS Awards

November 20th, 2009

WordPress has been awarded Overall Best Open Source CMS Award in the 2009 Open Source CMS Awards.

It is the first time the organisation has won the accolade at the awards, which received more than 12,000 nominations and over 23,000 votes across five categories.

WordPress was also announced as first runner-up in the Best Open Source PHP CMS category, having not even been in the top five last year. It also came out ahead of Joomla in the section.

Matt Mullenweg, writing on the WordPress blog, said: "Every member of the WordPress community, from core developer to beginning user, should be proud to be part of this momentum: congratulations to us all!"

He claimed that thousands of people are taking their first steps in the WordPress world every day to power both blogs and websites.

Earlier this month, the 2.8.6 security version of WordPress was launched, which web hosting users may want to get their hands on to keep their sites safe.
