New simplicITy system launched for over-50s
November 16th, 2009Some web hosting users will want to appeal to the older generation and so may be impressed by the newly-launched simplicITy computer.
Designed for over-50s who are relatively new to the technology, the machines feature an easy-to-use interface.
Once switched on, the simplicITy computer offers the user a number of options, including email, browse the internet, chat, about me, documents and video tutorials.
Options are clearly presented with big, recognisable buttons and the system comes with a large-text browser.
The Linux Mint operating system is used by the computer, which is powered by Vegan Solutions’ ‘Eldy’ software.
"You hear these stories about people buying PCs for their grandparents and them just gathering dust and we wanted to change that," commented Nigel Houghton, managing director of simplicITy.
According to research from Ofcom from earlier this year, free training was most important to those aged between 65 and 74 in encouraging them to get online.
