Web hosting users ‘finding it harder to detect malware’
November 5th, 2009The task for web hosting users to avoid malware is becoming increasingly difficult. This is the opinion of Tom Kelchner, research centre manager at Sunbelt Software, who said that it is certainly becoming trickier to identify such threats.
This is partly because malware creators are becoming more creative in how they produce their malicious code as they attempt to overcome antivirus and other malware prevention measures, he explained.
To combat these cybercriminals, web hosting users should look to keep their antivirus applications up to date and should also remain vigilant, Mr Kelchner commented.
"Users should avoid opening any attachments, even from trusted sources, without first running a scan on the file," he advised.
Mr Kelchner’s comments come after the release of the Microsoft Security Intelligence Report, which revealed that rogue security software was still the biggest threat for Microsoft customers in the first half of 2009. This was in spite of 20 per cent fewer customers being affected by rogue infections during the past six months.
