WordPress 2.0.x legacy branch ‘now retired’
July 30th, 2009The WordPress team has announced that the WordPress 2.0.x legacy branch is now retired, even though it was originally planned to keep going until until 2010.
Those interested in web hosting may be interested to learn that security improvements to WordPress in recent times have been total reworks of how different systems were dealt with, Mark Jaquith noted on the organisation’s blog.
He explained that bringing these changes to the 2.0.x branch would have been too much of a task and could have brought instability or new bugs.
On top of this, not as many people as expected remained on the 2.0.x branch, Mr Jaquith revealed, asserting that this was "a testament to the new features in WordPress".
In comments that could reassure those looking to use WordPress in their web hosting, Mr Jaquith added that the scope of its security improvements have been huge.
Earlier this month, Peter Westwood from the WordPress team revealed that it has improved the communication between plugin authors and plugin users about changes made between versions.
